Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Louise Debreczeny, CEO of Institute for Neurosemantic and Sociocognitive Learning LLC., located in Vancouver, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

INSL LLC provides services to children and adults with learning differences using strategies based on the science of learning. We provide learning interventions using visual learning strategies that match the way visual learners think and process new information. Schools provide strategies that are good for auditory learners, but these days more than 95% of students are visual thinkers. Our services bridge the gap for visual thinkers. We work with a wide range of learners of all ages across a variety of disability categories. Whether a person has a specific learning disability, ADHD, autism or Down Syndrome, or other learning challenges, we have strategies to help increase the person's levels of language and cognitive function. In addition, we provide services to help learners who have difficulty following directions both at home and at school. Behavior is often a matter of knowing what to do, and many students do not process oral instructions. We provide visual thinking strategies to help learners understand how to behave in a prosocial way.

We also hold workshops for teachers and parents and have a library of recorded workshops available on our website. We are also about to launch a new product, Story Pictures. Check back to our website in September 2022 to find the Story Pictures.

Tell us about yourself

I first started working in special education in 2005 after I had a spiritual lead to becoming a special education teacher. Since then, I have earned a Master's in Teaching degree and a special education endorsement from the City University of Seattle, and a Neuroeducation certificate, followed by a doctoral degree from the University of Portland. Once I achieved the goal of earning my Doctor of Education degree, I began pursuing my dream of helping neuroatypical learners all across the country and worldwide by opening INSL LLC. Seeing students that have not been successful in school become proficient at writing, reading, and prosocial behavior motivates me to continue this work and to try to provide services for as many students as possible. Teaching others how to provide these learning interventions is another exciting activity I love doing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We just completed our first year of business, and we're very excited that we met our gross income target for the year. But even more exciting is that we have helped more than 30 students achieve greater success in school in the past year, produced nine workshops for parents and teachers as well as set up a library of the recordings of those workshops. The next big thing is the sale of the new Story Pictures, which will be ready in August or September of this year.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest thing I am struggling with is getting the business name out to the folks who might be interested in our products and services.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a good bookkeeper to set up and maintain your books from the beginning.
  2. Make sure you provide a quality service or product.
  3. Join a networking group such as BNI or the Chamber of Commerce.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Children have the right to learn in the way that their personal brain works and not just be stuck with methods that do not meet their needs. INSL LLC is here to fill that gap for kids and families.
