Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Louise Cox, founder of Louise Cox PR, located in Bedford, Bedfordshire, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach product-based businesses the exact steps to getting featured in magazines using my unique R.I.P.P. system. My customers are small business owners, predominately women, that make their products (soap, jewellery, candles).

Tell us about yourself

I have always been a PR. It's what I studied at university and have my professional qualifications, but I took a hiatus to focus on growing my home fragrance brand (which I closed in January 2022). Although I still did PR for that business. When the pandemic hit, I saw lots of my fellow small business owners worried about their businesses, and I set up a free Facebook group in August 2020, sharing my PR knowledge and advice so they could keep visible. It was popular, grew quickly, and people were getting results from my free advice. I saw an opportunity, and in September 2020, I launched Louise Cox PR.

Working with fabulous businesses that are getting fabulous press coverage lights me up, and this keeps me motivated.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I wanted to help people grow their businesses through PR, and I have worked with people reporting sales and increased traffic to their websites. Small businesses that have gone through my course have been featured on the pages of The Independent, Psychologies, Country Living, and Top Sante, to name a few. I presented a seminar at Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday (#SBS) event in Birmingham in 2022.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing if I am doing the right thing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something that you love.
  2. Believe in yourself.
  3. Don't stop learning.
