Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lora Pegola, Founder of The Smoking Goat Spice Company, located in Barriere, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make uniquely flavoured, artisan spice blends. All natural & handmade, smoked over charcoal & hardwood, giving them their distinct flavour. My customers are anyone looking to up their cooking game. From novice cooks to experienced, they just add another level to your food.

Tell us about yourself

Cooking has always been a passion, but it was a pastime. When my husband & I moved to get out of the rat race, it gave me the opportunity to follow my passions. I love seeing & hearing the new & unique ways people are using our products.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think seeing our products in actual brick & mortar shops has been the most exciting. Also, hearing about people shipping it to friends & family all over the world, Sweden, Germany, and England are all places I know they have been sent.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning my limits. Sometimes you have to say no, and that’s difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you love what you do.
  2. Understand that sometimes you are going to be told no, don’t take it personally.
  3. Make time for yourself & your family (that should be in the #1 spot).
