Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lora Condon, founder of The Beauty Buster®, located in Naples, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am in the business of helping people solve their beauty, wellness, and health concerns as a beauty consumer advocate. My clients are traditionally people who have tried everything from doctors to influencer products, and they have all failed. Now, they're ready to change and experience the results they've only dreamed of.

Tell us about yourself

As a beauty consumer advocate, I love educating people on what really works and what is just marketing mumbo jumbo! After 20 years in the cosmetic, spa, and wellness industry, even Dr. Oz called me a beauty insider and had me dispel beauty myths on his show.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm proud that I've educated myself well enough to be considered an industry expert. I'm honored that over the years, my clients have invited me to their weddings, holidays, and special life events because they consider me their friend, not just their esthetician.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's really difficult to be responsible for everything from fixing the toilet to working with an accountant on my taxes to social media posting. You have to be good at many different things that have nothing to do with your actual skills.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. I would recommend having a vision from beginning to end of what you want your business to be and then brand and market like a pro.
  2. Think about how if you were going to sell your business, what would it be worth, and would someone want to buy it.
  3. Keep expenses as low as possible so you can reinvest into your business and have cash. Cash is still king.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be passionate about whatever business you're opening. Know the industry and be well versed in what is missing and how you can fill that gap.
