Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tiffany Bartok,  creator, and host of Look Behind The Look Podcast, located in Brooklyn, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Look Behind The Look is a new podcast hosted by the filmmaker behind Larger Than Life: The Kevyn Aucoin Story, Tiffany Bartok. It is a deep dive into iconic looks in film, TV, music, and fashion history with the creatives that brought them to life. Look Behind The Look also offers visuals on YouTube featuring archival photographs and footage to enjoy along with the interview.

Tell us about yourself

My background in makeup artistry inspired me to make my documentary directorial debut examining the life of iconic makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin. During COVID, like so many of us, I made a shift to satisfy my creative void, and Look Behind The Look was born.

It is a podcast that honors the incredible work of Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists, and sometimes Costume Designers who are responsible for the transformations and iconic looks in the entertainment industry. I love bringing industry secrets to my audience and allowing others to celebrate the work that is so often taken for granted when we enjoy our favorite shows, films, and fashion moments.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have had the honor of interviewing some of the greatest models, entertainers, and artists in the industry, from Kate Moss to Cher, and to celebrate the gifts they have given us and pop culture icons. I love sharing my guests' love for fashion and the entertainment industry with audiences while at the same time sharing the challenges and detailed artistry that is often overlooked.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge that I face is having to create content as well as keep up with all of the marketing. The trends in the promotional landscape evolve so rapidly, and we have a responsibility to keep on top of it all to remain relevant to our audience.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips are to remain a collaborative force with a strong vision, surround yourself with those who are as passionate about their contributions to your efforts as you are, and remain open-minded to all of the innovative ways you can reach your customers.
