Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerrie Humphrys, Founder of Locate Your Look, located in Southampton, Hampshire, UK.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have created an end-to-end beauty portal for hair, beauty, and wellness businesses and professionals. I founded Locate Your Look to provide a cost-effective and up-to-date approach to advertising and marketing for businesses in the industry while also providing a premier search experience to customers looking for their products and services. We specialise in assisting salon businesses in making an impression by educating and inspiring them to establish an online presence that will convert people searching for their services into new customers and profit.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the hair and beauty industry for over 34 years owning several salons, so I know what it is like to run a business within the industry, which isn't easy at times. I want to help and support salon owners and professionals by sharing my knowledge and experience because I couldn't find any company that offered support when I needed it.

Nothing motivates me more than the satisfaction I get from being able to empower someone. I enjoy applying my talents to the greater good. Always learning new things and sharing my experiences with others is very satisfying. I love delivering valuable solutions to customers and feeling a part of the development process.

I nearly lost my business in the pandemic, but I had a few members that continued to support me so I could carry on. They believe in me, and the business is what motivates me every day, so I can achieve the best for them and everyone in the industry.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been creating my business with literally very little money and no additional staff. I taught myself everything I needed to know, from web development to social media marketing. It has taken years of hard work, long hours, and no recognition to become successful. But it has been so worth it. My love for the industry and everyone in it gave me the strength to carry on.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things you'll have to face as a business owner is dealing with the unknown. Every day there will be new challenges and obstacles to deal with. Business is never predictable, no matter how prepared you are. It can also be very lonely at times, especially when having obstacles to deal with.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never give up. When things get tough, it's all too easy to give up. Don't be one of the 97% who gave up. Instead, be one of the 3% who succeeded.
  2. Maintain your motivation by continuing to learn, read, and listen.
  3. Surround yourself with like-minded people who will encourage and support you.
