Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chris Kramer, Owner of Living Lighter Health Coaching, located in Waukesha, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My name is Chris Kramer, and I'm a Reiki Master, Energy Practitioner, and Board-Certified Functional Wellness Coach. I'm currently the founder of Living Lighter Health Coaching, offering onsite services out of Capitol Wellness in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as well as remote reiki, energy, and health coaching sessions. My clients are fellow intuitive and sensitive people (mostly women, but some men) who are searching for a way to calm their stress, work through grief, or ease their anxiety. Reiki and energy work (including crystals and soon-to-be sound healing) can help my clients release areas of blocked energy, help them relax, and restore a feeling of harmony and peace. I am also a practitioner for a national health restoration program called SHAPE ReClaimed.

Tell us about yourself

I've been married to my husband for 25 years and have one daughter and two sons. I started as a Health Coach when I lost a lot of weight, and people started asking me for help. Back then, it was easy; however, I soon found myself with a lot of health challenges, including acid reflux, arthritis, and adrenal fatigue. I had both of my hips replaced within five months of each other at age 46 and now have issues with numbness in all of my fingers due to neck compression. I got myself off of all acid reflux meds by using functional medicine concepts I learned through the School of Applied Functional Medicine, which was a huge help for me. But I gained much of the weight back after my hip surgeries, which made me go into menopause. I found Reiki and other energy healing practices, which is more of my focus today. These modalities are amazing and very helpful to combat the stress of the many health challenges I've experienced.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is helping my clients change their health for the better. I recently rented a room for my Reiki and energy sessions, which is the biggest step I've been able to make toward helping more clients reach their full health potential. I absolutely love seeing my clients feel better after sessions with me.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing about being a business owner is finding clients and building my business around a regular full-time job. I have limited time to reach out and get my name out there, so that has made building my business much slower than I would like it to be.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips I'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today are these:

  1. Find a mentor or business coach to help guide you through the process. It increases your chances of success and helps you take much less time than doing everything yourself.
  2. Make sure to learn about how to run a business. You may have a passion for your craft, but in order to succeed, you need to learn basic business concepts also.
  3. Attend networking events as much as you can. Not only will you be able to obtain more clients/customers, but you will also find other like-minded business people to help you in your journey.
