Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marissa Goodman, Co-Founder of Live LYTE Counseling and Services, LLC, located in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Live LYTE Counseling & Services provides individual therapy, leadership coaching, clinical supervision, and training and development opportunities so our clients can manage stressors, navigate challenges, cultivate growth, and achieve success. Our mission is simple: to provide solutions to help you live life on your terms.

Tell us about yourself

In early 2020, what we knew and found comfort in coming to a complete stop. Like a lot of people, we experienced tremendous losses. We leaned on each other, family, and friends. On the other side was Live LYTE. Having been friends and colleagues in social services for over seven years, we decided to create something of their own to share with our clients. We want to empower others to achieve their goals through mental wellness and professional learning opportunities.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as business owners has been the ability to step into our business full-time. It can be scary to bet on yourself, and we are proud to say we do that every day.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things, especially at the beginning of our journey, has been to lean into difficult conversations with one another. As co-founders, we each bring our unique experiences and want to honor each other respectively. There have been times when we didn't agree or had contrasting views, and through processing and trusting each other, we were able to come out to the other side with a shared vision and a stronger foundation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Bet on yourself. You have the skills and talent necessary to chase your passion. Don't forget to acknowledge your wins along the way.
  2. Build a community and connect with others. Entrepreneurs take risks and are supportive of other entrepreneurs. Seek like-minded others to build a community with.
  3. Set manageable goals for yourself and not compare them to others.
