Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing and fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Belen Matheu, co-founder of Liv&Grace, located in Barcelona, Spain.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Liv&Grace is a curated fashion-oriented vegan marketplace where producers, brands, and shops come together online to sell unique, sustainable, and ethical fashion items.

We want the world to shop differently, choosing consciousness and ethical options that are yet stylish and fashionable. We want people to see they can look amazingly beautiful, chic, and on-trend while choosing to care about no one suffering for it, nor the animals, human lives working on unfair conditions, nor our planet. Being aware of our impact every time we purchase a product and being at peace with that choice is what we want to offer to every single one of our customers.

Tell us about yourself

We are three women running Liv&Grace. Christiane, Giovanna and I. We all co-founded Liv&Grace alongside with the kindest investor we could have found for this project. We are so lucky to have him!

It all started with my friend Sergio having an idea, and he asked me to do something with it. He then pitched it to the investor, and I called random vegan people I barely knew to brainstorm ideas together to create something big. Giovanna is the only one who stayed from that group chat and brought Christiane not long after. Since then, it's been a hectic year, and I'm so very proud of us all, this company, and what it represents. We have grown so much, and so much is yet to change!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say seeing your visions coming to life, you know...how the whole project evolves from nothing and manifests when you have the right people with you. So I'd say giving birth to what was on our minds feels like quite a big accomplishment at the moment. But I'm sure there are many more to come!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Keeping it together! Just kidding! I guess I'd speak in the name of the team if I'd say choosing the right people. Because when you are not on the same page with who you are supposed to trust and delegate, it might cost the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and your vision.
  2. Find the right people.
  3. Don't be afraid of failure.
