What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help organizations prevent employee burnout and promote a culture of well-being using my executive coaching and training services.
Tell us about yourself
I was trained as a neuroscientist and worked in a research laboratory that studied the effects of stress on our mental and emotional health. After working as a professor and university administrator in the academic world, I transitioned into executive coaching and training a few years ago. And I LOVE what I do now! I use the powerful data coming out of the best research laboratories to build real-world solutions for stress and burnout.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Burnout comes at a huge cost for organizations and the individuals who work for them. My favorite moments are when clients learn a simple, immediately actionable step that puts them on the road to stress recovery and well-being.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
As a former academic, I never learned how to market my services. So, marketing and advertising have been steep learning curves for me. The secret seems to be to focus on the pain points the client is facing and offer a truly valuable solution.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Network with like-minded colleagues. Solopreneurs are among the most generous and fascinating people on the planet.
- If you feel stuck on a business problem, work with a mentor or business coach.
- Invest in yourself through self-care. Put time on your calendar to spend with loved ones, and don't let work EVER crowd out that time.
