Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts & crafts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aleah Fitzwater, Founder of LittleEccentricities, located in Temperance, Michigan, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is LittleEccentricities- A multi-faceted shop with handmade jewelry, unique vintage pieces, and fantastical resin goodies like dragons or crystal paperweights.

Tell us about yourself

I am a musician/ music educator who woke up one day and decided to change things up. I got started working on my business when the schools were closed down. I had always wanted to start a business, but I never had the downtime to do it- That was my chance, and I ran with it. Every day, I'm motivated to make art and come up with something new or shine up something that hasn't been appreciated- Like a 1950's teacup that hasn't seen the light of day for quite some time.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is not in the thousands of views or countless sales- To me, it's gifting someone with a unique experience and making my customers happy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a small business owner means you never stop working- From 3 am, CHA-CHINGS on my phone that wake my partner and me up, to long hours and no weekend off, it's never easy, but it's always worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start today.
  2. Put 50% of your time into the photo you're taking and the rest into creating and marketing.
  3. Use social media every day, and don't be afraid to promote yourself.
