Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Faber, Founder and CEO of Little Yogis Academy, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Little Yogis is a mobile Yoga & Mindfulness program for kids in Canada aged 2.5 - 13 years. Our tagline is "Positivity & Movement for Busy Minds," as we aim to improve physical, mental, and emotional health through our curriculum. We partner with schools and childcare centers to improve the health and wellness of communities.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Michelle Faber, and the Founder and CEO of Little Yogis, a leading yoga & mindfulness education program based in Canada. A Certified Children's Yoga Teacher and successful Entrepreneur, I have found much success within the yoga & mindfulness community and have quickly become an authority on the subject. As a young adult, I learned to optimize my mental health through yoga and mindfulness, and when I saw signs of anxiety in my son, I began sharing my favorite practices with him. Seeing how much his emotional control and overall happiness improved inspired me to create a company that would help other children in the same way, and in 2019 I founded Little Yogis. My vision was to provide a wellness curriculum in all schools so that children would become more resilient to life's stresses. My mission is to make the world a kinder place through early intervention. I believe if we arm our youngest learners with the tools to cope with life's challenges, we can greatly increase the happiness and overall well-being of our students. I am dedicated to making the tools of yoga & mindfulness accessible and available to all children.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It has been a goal of mine to franchise my business as our mission is to make yoga & mindfulness accessible to all children. We started franchising in February, and so far, we have sold two franchises to wonderful business owners who are equally as passionate about our mission!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There is a major learning curve when it comes to owning your own business. When you first start, you will have to learn something new every single day. It can be daunting and intimidating, but keep going. One day it will all be second nature and smooth sailing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just START; it will never be the perfect time to open a business. Trust your intuition and go for it.
  2. Don't listen to the naysayers. There will be a lot of people in your life who will try and steer you in the other direction. Entrepreneurship is not for everyone. If you feel it in your gut, trust in yourself!
  3. Get a mentor. When I first started my business, I talked to a lot of entrepreneurs who guided me through the ups and downs of the first year.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

If you have an idea and you are passionate about it, do not second guess yourself. Start that business, and live your dream.
