What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create engaging and equitable resources that teachers around the world can use to build literacy and reinforce communication, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration skills.
Tell us about yourself
After working in the classroom for more than a decade, I made the decision to work full-time, creating content and material for teachers. I took a leap of faith, and it worked out. I love what I do. I enjoy creating captivating resources that meet the needs of all levels of learners. I strive to create materials that can be differentiated, modified, or scaffolded for a diverse group of students.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In 2019, my first book was published. Titled Home of the Brave: 15 American Immigrants Who Shaped US History, the book features 15 different biographies and corresponding activities for upper elementary and middle school readers. My second book, World History for Kids: 500 Facts, was published in 2021. Starting in 4000 BCE and finishing in the modern day, this book makes learning history as engaging as possible by breaking it down into fun facts kids will love.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
For me, it's difficult to juggle all the tasks that come with owning a business. In addition to writing and designing educational materials for teachers, I am also a marketer, accountant, manager, and so much more!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient. Building a business takes time (years).
- Be consistent. Like anything else in life, consistency and dedication will pay off in the long run.
- Be you. At times it can be really difficult, but don't play the comparison game.
