What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am Lisa Shifren, a portrait photographer specializing in portraits, headshots, elegant boudoirs, and family portraits. My focus is on providing personalized headshots and personal branding services for professionals and companies looking to enhance their business image. Additionally, I offer my skills to families who want to capture and preserve their special milestones through beautiful portraits. Moreover, I am passionate about empowering women and helping them celebrate themselves by creating custom boudoir portrait sessions that are both empowering and transformative.
Tell us about yourself
I fell in love with photography at the age of 12 in an overnight camp and have been photographing people ever since. I started my business in 2006 and built a studio in 2017. I love helping people to feel comfortable while being photographed and capturing their authentic selves in their portraits. I love seeing my client's faces once they see their portraits; everyone lights up and walks out of my studio, standing taller and feeling great about themselves.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I love my studio, and it has been a labor of love building it over the years. It is still evolving as I grow as a photographer. I am proud that I have been able to give back to the community by helping people who are starting over to have a fresh portrait to help them in their new endeavors.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Work-life balance. If I am not actively working on a project for my business, I am thinking about it. Or thinking about how to make something better behind the scenes. It is my passion, and I love it, but it's hard to separate myself from it and really take time off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Save for taxes and pay them on time.
- Outsource the tasks that you do not enjoy.
- Don't go into debt getting things off the ground if you can help it.
