Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lisa Adams, founder of All Good Things, located in New York City, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal chef and caterer in New York City. I cook for celebrities as well as families in Manhattan. I've worked on Broadway as a food consultant and specialty food provider. I am available for food consultant/edible props work on Broadway, TV, and film.

Tell us about yourself

I've been cooking in NYC since 1998. I shot a pilot for the Food Network, I'm a published food writer, and I have a food blog that I hope to turn into a book. I moved here as an actress, and I continue to find opportunities to combine my show business world with my food world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've assisted Steve Martin's chef for the last 22 years. Last week I cooked a solo dinner there and made lamb chops for Meryl Streep! Honestly, having my food on Broadway is something I'm most proud of.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I am ultimately the one to praise if an event goes well, but I also am the one to blame for any shortcomings.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. I feel like a Can Do Attitude and being a Yes Person are two qualities that have kept my business thriving all these years.
  2. Know your limits, set boundaries, and adhere to them.
  3. Smile. It sounds so simple, but when I come into clients' homes, I try to leave my stress and irritations at the door. I want to be a positive presence, so I stop myself before I ring the doorbell to get clear and go in smiling.
