Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shelly Elsliger, President of Linked Express, located in Eastern Passage, NS, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a LinkedIn Workshop Facilitator and Trainer.

Tell us about yourself

I work with teams, groups, and entrepreneurs to help them elevate their professional brand, spread their social influence, and go from being simply on LinkedIn to being LinkedIn.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment is that the work I do is transformational in nature, and as individuals/teams grow, they transform the way they see themselves and how they brand themselves. I build confidence and beat down imposter syndrome.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I recently moved to Nova Scotia, Canada, from Toronto, Canada. I now have to build relationships and earn trust again. It takes a while, especially since most Torontonians value LinkedIn and use it regularly, while most Nova Scotians don't use it to its full capacity. So, I have some work to do to win them over, so they take a chance on trying something new to help them reach their goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think relationship building over sales.
  2. Learn how to use LinkedIn effectively because it can work for you even when you are not.
  3. See failure, or rocky bumps in the road, as a learning process and just keep going.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Likeability is a skill that is measured, so make sure you are likable.
