Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ian Hildebrand, Founder of Linear, located in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business jumpstarts new brands in the scalping and Web3 niche communities. We create branding, marketing, and websites for new companies to get them off their feet.

Tell us about yourself

When COVID-19 hit, I was a sophomore in high school. I learned how to make websites in past years. I saw a gap in the sneaker reselling community where new companies had to go to multiple different people to create a brand identity and start selling their product or service. With the extra time COVID-19 gave me with online school, I created Linear and almost instantly became successful and continued to ride that wave.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was seeing competing consulting companies pop up, showing me that my business model was intriguing and they thought they could compete with me. Competition motivates me, and it's what's kept Linear #1 by many metrics.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Make sure everyone around you is working correctly and not wasting time. No one will ever have the dedication of the business owner, so keeping everyone in check is one of the tasks I'm not a fan of doing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Connections over salary (and keep your contacts app organized).
  2. Never stop innovating.
  3. Always find more ways to monetize.
