What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lightbody is a new type of nutritional supplement that was just launched last year. What makes Lightbody so different from other nutritional supplement brands is that each supplement in its line specifically targets digital wellness, a growing domain of holistic health. These wellness supplements give your body a complete arsenal of defense from the biological impacts that arise from chronic technology consumption and exposure while helping to protect against other environmental toxins of today's lifestyle that can cause negative health symptoms.
After working for years with some of the world's top biologists, chemists, and supplement formulators, we've used modern scientific research to develop an array of unique, next-generation supplement formulas that target pathways in the body responsible for increasing cellular resiliency and supporting positive health outcomes. Lightbody's range of supplements for the modern digital lifestyle focuses primarily on body imbalances that are influenced by exposure to environmental toxins. These environmental pollutants, including electromagnetic radiation and blue light from digital screens, can lead to oxidative stress, cellular damage, fatigue, immune disorders, aging, and more.
Tell us about yourself
Lightbody was actually born from another business that I help to run, called DefenderShield. DefenderShield was founded in 2011 by a father and son, Daniel and Ryan DeBaun, with the mission of offering the world's most effective electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation shielding products that help protect the body from the potentially harmful digital signals and 5G emitting from our everyday devices like cell phones, tablets, and laptops.
I joined DefenderShield after meeting Ryan at Yoga Teacher Training. We created an entirely new market for electromagnetic radiation protection, along with raising awareness on a controversial issue that continues to get pushed under the rug. DefenderShield has a Medical and Scientific Advisory board of doctors, physicians, researchers, and health experts that we work with closely to stay on top of research and spread awareness and information about EMF radiation.
We knew we could do more to help protect people, so we set out to complement our external protection products with supplements to actually help the body at the cellular level become more resilient to EMFs, blue light, and other toxins present in our world today.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating something new and innovative that doesn't exist in the crowded supplement market is really exciting. Building a great team is what makes me really proud.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Although building our team is one of my greatest accomplishments, it is also a big challenge right now. Balancing investing in the business plus finding and retaining talent in this market with the high cost of living and inflation is an ongoing challenge for all small businesses.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Determine your competitive advantages and what makes you different from what's already out there, and always keep those unique selling points at the forefront of your business.
- Don't deliberate too long on decisions, big or small. Go with your instinct and if you made the wrong choice, figure out what you can learn from that for the future.
- The right people for your business, whether employees or contractors/freelancers, don't need to be micromanaged and should be trusted to do their jobs. In a small business, employees usually have to wear many hats, so find people who are excited about the opportunity they have in your business to learn and grow.
