Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sylvia Hall, co-founder of Lifted Naturals, located in Kansas City, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Lifted Naturals, we are in the business of helping people feel better naturally. We are passionate about the gut-brain connection and believe our MOOD probiotics are an important missing puzzle piece for our modern environment.

Tell us about yourself

I like to say I waltzed out of the womb an entrepreneur. I've also had about ten years of business practice before I started Lifted Naturals. I love the thrill of starting something from nothing, and I also love the feeling of being able to help more and more people with our scalable business model.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's a tie. Each week, I receive emails saying, "Thank you SO much, your mood probiotics changed my life." That means the world to me. It has also been amazing to 'retire' my husband from his job as an engineer and bring him fully onboard the entrepreneur life. As a stay-at-home mom and a business owner, that was a really good feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Continually learning not to take things too personally. That's a big one. Continuing to care deeply about our customers and their struggles and not getting jaded when the obstacles seem insurmountable.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start before you are ready. You will learn so much along the way, and that's the best way to grow.
  2. Don't share your ideas with nay-sayers. Protect those precious ideas and only share them with people who want to see you succeed.
  3. Ask yourself: can I live with NOT doing this? Regret is far worse than failure.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I learned the hard way that mood issues may not be all in our heads, but they may be in our guts. When you feel better, you can do more good in the world. Prioritize your health and wellbeing.
