Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fiona Bennett, Founder of Life Learning Strategies, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Life Learning Strategies provides Women's Life Coaching & Reiki services for women who are tired of faking their way through life and want to feel better and take back their power.

Tell us about yourself

I'm Fiona Bennett, a Women's Life Coach & Reiki practitioner. I became a life coach because I was blown away by the amazing transformation in my life.

I'd been overwhelmed and feeling pressured by a life of "shoulds." I was constantly trying to feel happy and pretending that I was, while on the inside, most of me was sad, resentful, or numb to the life I was living. It felt like something was missing, and I was failing and falling short no matter how hard I worked or tried.

The spiritual and practical tools I learned changed everything. And I didn't want other women to suffer needlessly for one minute longer. I was first certified in the Inner Workout. It is a beautiful, simple practice that guides you to reconnect to your inner child. I'm also a certified Integrative NLP and Reiki practitioner.

I use meditation, visualization, tapping, energy work, and various other tools to guide women to heal their inner child and re-discover their divine gifts so they can claim their worth. When you know who you are and you are unique, that is the first step to creating a life you love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Many women have been feeling not good enough for a lifetime. It is a heavy burden. In just one or two sessions, as that burden lifts, so does the weight. It is gratifying to walk the path as women experience being seen, heard, and supported on their journey and, over a few months, go from feeling hopeless to decisive, empowered, and alive to the possibilities of life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Knowing your ideal client is super important, especially when the work you do together is so intimate. Early on, I would sometimes take on a client even if they needed more time to be fully ready to do the job or I knew they wouldn't respect the boundaries within our agreement.

Both of us were satisfied with the outcome. It was a good lesson. Practice what you preach! Follow your gut, respect your boundaries, stop people pleasing and say NO! with love.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something YOU love or are interested in. Not what you "should" love or be interested in.
  2. Don't BS. If you don't know, it is ok. If you love it, you probably know more than you think.
  3. Ask for help. Don't be afraid of your competitors. Network with them. You are all unique, and as long as you are you, nobody else is your competition.
