Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Misty Getrich, Founder of Life in Balance Coaching & Wellness, located in Modesto, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a resilience and wellness coach and health practitioner passionate about whole-person wellness and mind-body health, utilizing an integrative approach ranging from neuroscience, interpersonal neurobiology, somatic experiencing, body-based movement, compassion, mindfulness, positive psychology, strength-based mindset, and depth psychology. My clients are people exploring ways to manage life’s challenges and become the best version of themselves. Although I specialize in first responders, my client base has a large diversity and represents all walks of life.

Tell us about yourself

My journey started in high school with a desire to pursue healthcare. I began working in a hospital, transitioned to a first responder, and then therapy in a private practice. The common thread has always been a deep desire to help people. The final destination to open my coaching and wellness business is the combined experience from all these amazing jobs. These experiences allow me a depth of resources to draw from. My innate desire to help people led me to the discovery of the missing link to overall wellness - prevention, and proactivity. I am passionate about helping people learn about themselves, especially on a biological level, which can assist them in handling any challenge presented to them and healing from past experiences.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is being a consistent learner. With every client, with every training, with all the research, I know I am adding to my tools to assist my clients with understanding what they are capable of. I remain curious and open to exploring and expanding my skills and expertise to help those whom I’m meant to.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me is balancing all the aspects of the business. My passion for what I do sparks many ideas and opportunities. Narrowing down where to start and what to do next is one aspect. Also, because I love to grow personally, I will happily spend my time reading or training in a new area. Scheduling, marketing, bookkeeping, and other core business tasks are essential as well. Delegating where possible and creating a delicate balance between passion and business basics is important.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My 3 tips are to follow your passion, always be a learner, and get help in the areas that are not your strengths. Ask yourself, “What sets my heart on fire?” Whatever comes to mind, see if you can bring that into your work in some way. Forge your path grounded in what means most to you and makes you come alive. Remaining curious and being a constant learner are parts of the entrepreneurial spirit. These traits allow for evolution and growth within your business. Also, knowing what you are good at and areas that you need support in are important to learn. In your business, do what you are strong in and ask for help in the areas that you are not. This will allow you to focus on exactly what you need to and creates a symbiotic relationship of allowing others to do what they are strong in to support you.
