What's your business, and who are your customers?
I rescue newlyweds from fighting over the dishes by teaching them the 4 things they NEED to know in 6 coaching sessions (or less).
Tell us about yourself
After earning my BA in research psychology, I completed a service year with AmeriCorps and used my education award to pay for an Outward Bound course. I built on that experience with several years as a wilderness therapy guide. I transitioned out of guiding teens and adults in crisis through the backcountry in the top 5% of guides with 550 field days under my belt. I became a Certified Professional Life Coach thereafter to continue my education and independently implement my unique set of skills in service to others.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Endurance. Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart, and one must remember that it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Uncertainty and prioritizing. It’s your responsibility to consistently drive your own income, and there’s no hourly wage for entrepreneurs. Then there’s the challenge of deciding which comes first of the dozens of things that had to happen yesterday.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Spend more money on help upfront.
- Cycle through trial & error as quickly as possible.
- Get specific, specific, specific to who you’re targeting so that your product/service seems like it was serendipitously, psychically, and uniquely made just for them.
