Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Libby Robertson, CEO of Libby Robertson Global Ltd., located in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Libby Robertson Global is a coaching, training, and consulting company dedicated to helping people elevate their mindset, energy, and strategy to take their life and business to whole new levels, in alignment with their purpose, and for the betterment of generations to come. Our customers are predominately female entrepreneurs and visionaries, although we do work with people from all walks of life, of all genders, and all around the world.

Tell us about yourself

I always knew I'd eventually run my own company. But it wasn't until I got a second chance at life after a drunken suicide attempt, found myself in hospital, and made the decision to never drink again - a big call for a party girl - that I found a purpose that I was passionate enough about, to succeed in business. My business started out as a blog, sharing how I had done a total 180 in my life, how I got sober, and how I'd healed from depression, anxiety, and addiction in the process. People started reaching out - old friends and colleagues, and strangers in private Facebook groups I was part of and asked for coaching. That's how my business was born. Super organically, and from a passion for helping alleviate the pain and suffering others may be experiencing - having made it through to the other side.

Now, I prefer to take another approach, and I believe that while ambulances at the bottom of the cliff are necessary - there are changes we can begin implementing before someone even gets to the cliff. Knowing that when each person focuses on becoming the best version of themselves, follows their heart, and lives in alignment with their purpose - an incredible freedom is unlocked. And the ripple effect from each person 'doing the work' and that I get to serve each and every day in my community, audience, and clients' lives - is phenomenal. It motivates me to show up every single day for something far greater than myself and that I so passionately believe in.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Whenever I get a message from someone who's applied some advice I've given them, or they watched a training, or took a course of mine, and they reach out months or years later to tell me how much I've positively influenced their life and lifestyle - and how that's rubbed off on the people around them... I feel the greatest sense of joy and gratitude!

My biggest accomplishment would be actually getting to where we are today in business, having a global reach, and creating employment opportunities in our community. And I feel so proud of the version of me who risked her entire career and financial security to go all in on her vision and dreams, let alone the girl who just 7 years ago had her entire life turned upside down who decided to let something positive come from something so traumatic, and didn't give up for years while she figured out what that positive thing might be.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things that most people never anticipate when starting a business is having to learn how to find stability and security totally from within, especially when it comes to making money - which is directly linked to our survival. Without the 'safety' of knowing when your paycheck is going to come - like you would with a job, you really have to learn how to find massive courage and resilience within, to keep showing up, applying different strategies, strengthening your mindset and self-belief when you spend the large majority of your time in the 'unknown.' I think the hardest thing is learning how to be in a state of service and abundance while figuring out how to make money and survive. It's the biggest shift, and once you get it - you're set for life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. DO IT!!!! Seriously, you wouldn't have the dream in your heart if it wasn't possible for you. I believe your heart and soul speak to you first, and your mind will come in to try and talk you out of it. Go all in. Do it. You've got what it takes!
  2. Your mind and your energy is your greatest asset. Invest in it. Invest in your growth. Learn how to think differently - every obstacle you ever face can be overcome by learning how to think greater than whatever problem you're dealing with in business. Train your brain to be on your team. It'll either be your greatest critic or your greatest cheerleader. I've seen too many amazing, talented people give up on their dreams because they didn't know how to believe in themselves. Strengthen your mind and your energy (and emotions), and you'll go far!
  3. Stay in the game. Choose to believe that your dreams are for you. I started my very first business 18 years ago. And started three businesses before I founded 'The One.' Failing just isn't an option, so if you keep going, learning, growing, evolving, changing your approach, and thinking differently, eventually, you'll create momentum and start to see results. You just gotta stay in the game long enough. Stay in the game.
