Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Allison Craig, Owner of Lentille Photography LLC, located in Stafford, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Lentille Photography is a Houston photography studio. We've become known for creating a full-service, luxury experience for Houston families. Our clients love our Studio Wardrobe (we have close to 200 dresses for mom + clothes for everyone else!), our hair and makeup artist that goes to them, and that we design albums and wall art for every client. Whether you just found out you are expecting and would like to document the first year of milestones with a Luxury Membership, or your kiddos are getting older, and you need updated family pictures, our studio will ensure every detail is thought of, and your family receives portraits that are authentically you.
Tell us about yourself
I went to school to be a Labor and Delivery nurse, and after six years in that profession, I quickly realized it was only a stepping stone. I had scheduled my own portraits for my first son, and it wasn't an experience I loved. I was stressed out with what to wear, where to take pictures, what time of day to do it, and how to not be awkward in front of the camera. Knowing this and having the motivation to be different, I created a full-service experience for my own clients. Everything is done for you, allowing you to actually love and enjoy the day and your time with family (this translates into really pretty pictures!).
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I currently run my business from afar after moving my family to North Carolina and the end of 2021. I believed I could have the best of both worlds---keep my business and live where I want to---and that's exactly what I did.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Always feeling like there's another thing to work on or do. That being said, I absolutely know that I'd rather work 25 hours for myself than 5 hours for someone else!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Know your cost of doing business and be profitable (and sustainable!) from the very beginning, create an experience that is authentic to you, and deliver art that makes your heart sing. So often, people look to others for what they should charge or create, and doing the exact opposite will create a business that you really, truly love.
Where can people find you and your business?
If you like what you've read here and have your own story as a solo or small business entrepreneur that you'd like to share, then please answer these interview questions. We'd love to feature your journey on these pages.
