Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lenny Gray, CEO of D2D Millionaire, located in Draper, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach companies how to build successful door-to-door programs. Some of the fastest-growing companies in the world have implemented a direct marketing strategy into their business model. Business owners and sales managers looking to develop their own door-to-door programs don't have to invent the wheel. I've been building successful d2d programs for decades! My clients own and operate businesses and are looking to accelerate their business grow exponentially.

Tell us about yourself

I've been married to my best friend for 25 years, and we have 5 wonderful children. When I'm not knocking on doors, I enjoy supporting my kids in their sports, dance, music, and academic activities. I've coached several of my kid's sports teams. I have served faithfully in my church and, prior to getting married, served a 2-year church mission in Washington DC. I love al pastor tacos and almost anything with coconut in it!

I started knocking doors for Orkin Pest Control in 1998 in Birmingham, Alabama. I was the top rookie sales rep in the company. I've consulted for companies in various home service industries. My daily motivation is to maximize every hour of every day from a personal and career perspective, also to have no regrets at the end of the day, and to be able to provide opportunities for others so they can achieve their personal and career goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Giving my employees the opportunity to reach some of their personal goals of buying homes, advancing in their careers, and starting families

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Prioritizing daily and weekly schedules to maximize productivity. Making sure the most important priorities are given ample time to ensure the best outcomes.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I frequently tell people they have to have the stomach for the start-up. This means that most people aren't able to digest all that comes with being a business owner. Some of the most difficult things to digest include: constantly being at the mercy of others, being able to adapt to an ever-changing environment, and ensuring your loved ones are getting the time and love they deserve.

Top 3 tips:
1. Embrace the chaos that typically surrounds growth.
2. Make sure your employees know you care about them.
3. Hire experts to do the things you are unable to do or dislike doing.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

One of the primary reasons for writing my two books about door-to-door was to shed some light on an industry that oftentimes gets a bad rap. There is an ethical and proper way to do door-to-door sales. Also, door-to-door campaigns don't have to be sales focused and can be used as a means to market. Door-to-door programs can seem intimidating and unrealistic but don't have to be with the right guidance.
