Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Holman, Founder of Lemon Balm Coaching, located in Tamuning, Guam.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Life Coaching for people who have stuffed their emotions so far down they cannot feel anything. I work one-on-one with men and women who feel empty and emotionless, feel disconnected, experience chronic stress, can't feel physical pain anymore, have undiagnosable pain, have slow-healing wounds, and more.

Tell us about yourself

My passion is helping others succeed. I have always loved helping others make sense of their relationships and other life issues. As an older woman with grown children and a lifetime of experience, I am entering this field and building my business to reach as many people as possible with the message that they can live their best lives.

After raising my kids, I returned to school and earned my Aromatherapy Certification through the American College of Healthcare Sciences. Through my Aromatherapy clients, I realized that I love the deep work of helping people uncover their deepest wounds and offering a listening ear, compassion, information, and advice.

During the pandemic, I returned to the classroom to become a Master Transformational Coach through the Health Coach Institute. The thrill of working one-on-one with my clients and seeing them make breakthroughs that support who they genuinely want to be is what fuels me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is showing up every day for my business. This is a lasting relationship that I am committed to building and promoting organically. My business has grown out of my love for people and a desire for more in my life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a solopreneur, the weight of my business is solely on me. I am responsible for every decision, good or bad, that I make for myself and my business. Learning to trust my intuition and lean into my business as an extension of who I am has become a beautifully organic process.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire a business coach who understands your goals and has grown their own business. Find someone who doesn't just tell you they've succeeded but can show you and also is in alignment with your goals and desires. If you're unsure, meet with them to find out. During that initial discussion, you are both interviewing each other.
  2. Hire a Certified Public Accountant who understands the business rules where you operate your business. The business side of your business needs to be above reproach.
  3. Find support. This could come from your spouse, friends, a Life Coach, a mastermind, and more. Find people who are behind you and what you are building. Building a business can be a lonely proposition; having that support will be critical at every stage of your business growth.
