Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dillon Pena, creator, and founder of Leland Francis, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Leland Francis is a gender-neutral line of plant-based, vegan skincare, and candles developed by a makeup artist. Our customers are those who want sustainable skincare that is easy to use.

Tell us about yourself

I started out as a makeup artist and still work as a makeup artist. I never set out to start a brand, but rather, a product that I need for my makeup kit and personal use. However, the summation of my experiences on set is ultimately why I have founded Leland Francis. I love doing makeup, and I love using skincare to help create a radiant complexion.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is actually being a business owner. It's not easy and takes a lot of time and devotion before you are ready to strep out and show the world your baby.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is managing expectations hitting goals and deadlines. Often times hitting the goals and deadlines are completely out of your control, but it is being quick to adapt and change to help reach those goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't be afraid to fail.
  2. If you fail, pick yourself up and try again.
  3. Adapt to change fast.
