Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kimberly Didrikson, Founder and CEO of Learning Motherhood, located in Huntington Beach, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a company called Learning Motherhood, a consulting agency and online community platform built to create a culture around the importance of humanizing the workplace by supporting organizations and the immediate needs of individual working parents.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 15 years growing my career at a Fortune 100 company and, as a director, managed teams with portfolios of over $20 million in yearly sales, yet nothing prepared me for growing and birthing a child and returning to work. Determined to change how mothers are supported through this transition back to work, I created Learning Motherhood. My passion runs deep in transforming the workplace to support working parents by also providing programs to assist organizations in creating a work environment that embraces families to strengthen company values.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making change for parents in the workplace and at home. To hear from a client that they are able to pursue their career dreams and be the parent they want to be will always be my biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

All the hats you wear. I'm the marketer, the business developer, the client relations contact, the operations director, and the accountant.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient. Building a business takes time. Do not try to do too much at once.
  2. Always be willing to change and adjust your strategy.
  3. Ask for help.
