What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is teaching dog owners how to train and better understand their dogs. I work with all breeds and problems. Fear, aggression, behavior modification, basic to off-leash obedience, socialization, puppy training, and more. My clients are anyone with a dog struggling to have control, dealing with reactivity, or just wanting a better relationship!
Tell us about yourself
I've had a love for dogs ever since I can remember. When I got my German Shepherd, Brooklyn, in 2012, I knew I wanted to give her the most amazing life possible, and I became obsessed with dog training and how dogs think and learn. From there, I went to school for dog training. Right after graduating, I started volunteering for rescues and my business. I am deeply motivated by the "ah ha" moments when my clients start to figure things out and see the changes in their dogs. Making my own schedule and not having to answer to anyone is a big motivator for me as well.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Reaching and helping millions of people and building my reputation to where it is now. I have become my own brand and built it from the ground up.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The very blurred line between work and life. It can sometimes feel like I'm always working... because I am. But the reward is worth it. I've read somewhere that there is no such thing as work-life balance; it's ALL LIFE... the balance comes from within you. I couldn't agree more with that.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start now. It can seem very overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time.
- Don't waste much money on advertisers (magazines and old-school methods); create content and use FB ads.
- Be of service. Making money is great, but that will always be there, flowing in like a river when you operate from a place of service and gratitude.
