Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lauren Lovett, an Embodied Artist Coach based in Yucca Valley, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Artists, who are also my peers and clients. I am an Embodiment Coach. Whether it's helping to create a role for the stage or screen or easing my clients' anxieties, I love what I do.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a Juilliard Drama School grad from the 90s and was a professional actor until I decided to be in the Support business full-time. Along with voice, dialect, and bodywork, I also consult with theater companies around EQ, Consent Culture, and Intimacy Practices.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think I am most excited about how the business continues to evolve each year. What started out as only voice and dialect keeps opening up into deeper practices, including trauma-based somatic therapy. Keeping an open heart and mind helps me see opportunities that I might not have noticed if I were more tunnel-visioned.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing for me right now is figuring out how to be more visible. I have helped hundreds of artists over the past six years, and I would like to help many, many more. I run Embodiment Retreats in the high desert now, and the testimonials we get afterward tell of the life-changing effects. I wish I had a magic wand to get that message out to all of those who would benefit!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. No one will be as excited about or as dedicated to your idea as YOU are - and that's OK.
  2. Don't let frustration eat away at the faith. If you believe this is what you are meant to bring into the world, keep going.
  3. Take time to support friends and colleagues -- brainstorm together, work their booth at an event, and send a supportive text on a yucky day -- it will build community and send that good energy back to you.
