Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Gevanter, Founder of Conscious Alignment Coaching, located in Sag Harbor, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a transformation catalyst and the creator of the Conscious Alignment Method. I am a certified life coach specializing in harnessing energy alignment and working with the subconscious through the processes of PSYCH-K and Emotion Code. My clients are people who have usually tried other modalities for self-improvement, overcoming trauma and challenges, and have not been successful. They are open-minded, are usually familiar with some less traditional methods, and are ready to get the results (finally!) they are seeking. I work both in person and remotely. I also recently added copywriting (for those in the holistic and wellness arena) to my business, utilizing my areas of expertise to assist others in creating website copy.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been intuitive, and people have always told me I would make a good therapist. I have been fascinated with psychology and human nature since I was old enough to read and started reading books like Psycho-Cybernetics in 6th grade. I was not your "normal" kid. I never really wanted to be a therapist, so I had a whole other career in marketing and product development for the beauty and wellness industry before I discovered life coaching and got my certification. After that, I learned about PSYCH-K and did the advanced levels of training as I wanted a specific modality to use with my clients, which was a game-changer. For a number of years, I did this part-time while having a full-time job until I took the leap to not look back and do this work full-time. Best decision I ever made. What motivates me each day is to know I am having an impact on others' lives and helping people overcome challenges, blocks, and trauma they may have been carrying for many years or even a lifetime. At the same time, I am utilizing my talents and doing what I love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been being invited to be part of a panel as a subconscious expert for an online platform with over 60,000 attendees and being a featured teacher on that platform.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being okay with not having consistent income when you are used to getting a paycheck every two weeks. There will be months that exceed your expectations and those that may cause stress. When you understand there are cycles, and you may need to adjust your marketing, offerings, etc., you learn to "go with the flow" and that it all works out in the end.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait till you "are ready" because you never will be. If you have a strong desire to do something, just get started, and you will figure the rest out as you go.
  2. When marketing your business, don't just do what others tell you to do. It must feel right to you and align with who you are and how you want to work. Otherwise, you will create resistance around it and either won't do it or will do it poorly and then think you've failed. Figure out how you would most enjoy promoting your work and what would feel best to you and do that, whether it's through videos, articles, webinars, interviews, etc.
  3. Know that you will have moments of self-doubt, freaking out that you made a mistake, feel isolated and alone, and just about every emotion imaginable. It's normal and to be expected, but it's all part of the wonderful journey of getting to see what you are capable of, who you really are, and how you and your business will evolve over time.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
