Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Dry, founder of Laura Dry Coaching, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a confidence coach for miserable moms who don't want to be. As a mom of four, I am no stranger to the demands of motherhood. I remember one day, when my kids were very small; I had the realization that I was living the life of my dreams. I had everything I had ever wanted, yet I was miserable. This realization was a turning point for me. It was the catalyst to the start of my very own confidence journey.

Tell us about yourself

Six years ago, when my anxiety was at an all-time high, and my confidence was at the lowest of lows, I discovered life coaching and hired a coach for myself. I began applying some of the tools I was learning from my life coach. I discovered for myself that not only were confidence and happiness possible, but they were possible for me!

As you learn how to build confidence, you gain access to the powerful woman you actually are behind all the noise. You can turn the complaining, judging, comparing, wishing, and worry into an unstoppable Confidence that ignites your life.

Your life does not have to be miserable. You are meant to have Joy and be Happy. A beautiful, messy, authentic, guided, and confident life is available to you. It's my passion to help you uncover yours.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been choosing to let all the little failures that we all experience as entrepreneurs not define my ability to succeed. We can either fail forward or fail-stop. Both are uncomfortable, so why not choose the discomfort that allows for momentum towards our goals and dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it has been balancing motherhood and building my business. This has required practice and commitment to boundaries and my schedule, being true to my values and crystal clear on my priorities. As moms, we can't always control our day; being flexible and dropping expectations has been a game-changer for me as I have worked to create that work-life balance.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Everything is figure-out-able!!
  2. Don't let anything from the past dictate your future.
  3. You will never feel ready to get started, so the best time to start is now.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't underestimate the power of commitment. If you aren't committed in a meaningful way, you won't take action on your goals and dreams. Create meaningful commitment by creating a powerful 'why' behind the services or value that you offer. Lastly, the only way you can fail is if you stop trying.
