Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Allahverdi, Owner of Virtual Biz Laura, located in Medford, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm the virtual business partner you wish you had!

Support from every angle: consulting on strategy, marketing & mindset + execution of copywriting, design & systems that work to make sales. Smart, efficient, super organized, intuitive & creative = ready to make your projects happen.

Serving: You're a solopreneur, a thought leader, an expert in your field, or a small business that has reached a point of success, and you’re ready to scale. You realize you need help, or your ideas are going to just live in your head and never get online. Maybe you even need someone to manage you! You’re tired of making all the decisions alone and wish you had someone with experience to bounce ideas off of, give you advice, come up with a strategy, support you, and do work FOR you even better than you could.

Tell us about yourself

Spent 10 years as a right hand to small business owners in the marketing space, followed by 8 years in the online business entrepreneur space working on launches, sites, and bringing ideas to life.

I started in the online space when I decided to become a life coach and needed a way to market myself. Over the years, I've morphed into working on others' businesses because I enjoy the process and the ability to use my creative skills as well as coach other owners in their business skills. I LOVE leaving things better looking and more successful than I found them!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Supporting myself with consistent income and having the luxury of options when I wake up in the morning. Shall I have my coffee on the beach? OR go for a stroll before getting online? :) Working anywhere from a laptop is a blessing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting comfortable with uncertainty. Even though we are just accustomed to feeling a false sense of stability when we are employed by someone else because jobs are "safe" by societal definition.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you're just starting out, learn how to make sales before investing in any bells and whistles! Those just add to the sales, they don't create sales.
  2. Don't waste time on logos! You can always add one later. A logo doesn't make your business real, sales do!
  3. Don't follow one recipe for success that someone else used. There are plenty of ways to go about business and marketing. It's essential to find out what works for you and your desired lifestyle and utilizes your strengths so it works easily and naturally.
