Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lateva Woolfork, Founder of Socially Coordinated Consulting, located in Greenwood, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Socially Coordinated Consulting (SoCo PR), specializing in brand strategy, Marketing, Media Community Engagement, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO). We work with clients who are looking to elevate their brand through marketing and movement!

Additionally, as the Co-Founder of Create. Connect. Collab. is a community that provides creatives, leaders, and entrepreneurs with immersive professional development and accountability.

Tell us about yourself

My career started in the medical field. I was in the field of bariatric surgery and, shortly thereafter, nephrology. We then made the huge change to move our family of then five to Indiana. I knew I didn't want to go back to the medical field, but I felt boxed in, so I did what everybody does... I started a blog. If I wrote about my feelings, I could build a community and get insight. I quickly learned that just because you write something online doesn't mean people will read it. So, I reached out to a friend who was already deep into blogging, and she guided me through gaming traffic; I then taught myself SEO and marketing and started connecting locally.

I am sooo motivated to be the best I can be and share in the joy of that with my family. It takes a lot to get here; coming from trauma is a part of my history, and it definitely motivates me to hold each day as a day to do something new and move the needle in my business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Whew, I really started relishing in the small wins as a business owner; sometimes, the big wins are few and far between. My biggest win is continuing to grow and solidify my consulting firm. We are very new in the business and growing our roots here in Indy, for Create. Connect. Collab, our biggest win is reaching over 100 members!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is you eat what you kill, for lack of a better metaphor. If you don't work, you don't eat... especially in a smaller company like both of mine; there are not many others to rely on, and you have to work when the work needs to be done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Ohhhh, three tips, one: build a community before you launch! Two: Network, Network, network! Three: Be a connector of opportunity for others, and it will always circle back to you. And If I could leave a note to say a few prayers and be guided by your faith and belief in yourself.
