What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a mother-daughter duo in both Seattle and Los Angeles handcrafting, clean-burning soy wax candles. We love recently just launched our vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics as well! It’s been so fun getting to know our customers through their scent choices.
Tell us about yourself
We started LaRoux in the midst of the pandemic. We are thousands of miles apart from each other and have always wanted to build a business together. Candles and scents have always been big for us. Through a very difficult time in the world, we wanted to help spread a little light. The scent is so special because it has the ability to take us somewhere magical. It’s nostalgic. Together from Seattle to Los Angeles, we built Laroux.
LaRoux is named after our (mother/grandmother) who was/is an inspiration to us. She was empowering, hardworking, loving, and a light in this world. She keeps us motivated every day from above. It really brings us so much joy to hear back from happy customers. We enjoy putting a smile on their faces.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Starting our business during one of the most difficult times we’ll know in history. I am really proud of us and every small business out there that works hard to make its dreams a reality. It’s so fulfilling to know you are putting in the work, creating, and are passionate about a beautiful future.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Personally, for us, I’d say when it comes to running our own business, it’s hard to shut the brain off. We are constantly thinking, creating, and coming up with new ideas, but it’s so important to manage a healthy work/recharge relationship with yourself. Don’t forget to take time for yourself. We’ve been known as somewhat workaholics because we love what we do, but we are getting so much better at balancing our time!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Find something you are passionate about. Do your research, and come up with a solid business plan, HAVE FUN doing it. Enjoying the process is so important. NEVER give up. There are going to be days where you’re stressed, tired, & overwhelmed.. but it’s so worth it to see your work speak for itself. To know you’ve built something you’re proud of.
