Tell us all about your business...

My business is an event floristry business specialising in weddings and large scale floral installations.

What's your background and motivation to grow as a business owner?

My business is a progression from my previous career as an interior designer, which no longer worked for me. When I started a family I needed an outlet for my creative side and have found it within floristry. I have been very lucky that I have had some clients that have given me a bit of a free reign with my ideas. I am motivated by keeping my customers happy and inspiring my children, I want them to know that you really can do anything you want in life. You just have to work towards it.

As an entrepreneur, what does success ultimately mean to you?

I think the first phone call from a complete stranger booking me in to do the flowers for their wedding. It felt so big that someone had found my work and liked my work enough to pick me over all the other florists out there.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?

For me it’s managing my time, I have a ‘day job’ that I still need to continue with for the time being, a young family and fitting everything in can be a struggle. I have had to really focus on what’s important to me and my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a small business today?

  1. Prepare yourself for some hard graft to get where you want to be.
  2. Don’t let yourself become too consumed that you don’t see the bigger picture.
  3. Embrace the competition, there are people out there that want to drag you down but there are also people that will lift you up.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I think that you really have to love what you are doing because then the long hours don’t seem so bad.
