Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in dance and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lana Hadi, Founder of Studios Accento, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Studios Accento is a dance and fitness center that aspires to bring love and life into the community. We offer a fun variety of dance classes and encourage everyone to get fit and healthy in the most exciting way possible. We also offer studio rental services for teachers, group practices, and rehearsals.

Tell us about yourself

When I moved back to Montreal after working in Dubai for a few years, I was managing coffee shops, and at the same time, I decided to start learning Latin dances as a hobby. I fell in love with dance from that moment, but after a few years, I became interested in learning other styles such as Afrobeat, Hip Hop, Dancehall, etc. however, I was unable to find a studio that offered the diversity that I was looking for or the environment I had in mind. This was when I decided I would start the type of studio I was searching for and hoped there were others searching for the same. Turns out there were! Seeing that my dance studio brings joy to a lot of people every day is my biggest motivation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to take that first step and the risk of building space from nothing and seeing what a beautiful community it has developed into where people can express themselves, dance, meet other people, and feel good about themselves is a great accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being always ON as a business owner and being the sole responsible person is hard sometimes, especially when you need a break, but very worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. “The biggest risk in life is not taking a risk.”
  2. Persistence is key! Giving up too fast is a big mistake.
  3. You only live once; if you can try to do what you love, DO IT!
