What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Jewelry By Fallingstar. I design jewelry, kitchen accessories, trinkets, and original sci-fi and anime merchandise. My customers are typically fun, innovative, and creative.
Tell us about yourself
It all started with a gift in 2019. My sister-in-law gave me a soap-making kit. My kids and I had lots of fun making soap, so I decided to turn it into a business. I started a natural bath and beauty business first then I created my Jewelry Shop in 2020. I am an artist as well. I have art in galleries all over the country and won various awards. I wanted to design and make products that customers could use and wear.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the 5-star rating that I have. I truly feel like great customer service and quality products have helped spread the word about my shop. I enjoy the feedback I get, good or bad.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing was during the pandemic and the turmoil of it all. Also, getting exposure is a challenge for a small business owner. I work full-time and have two kids as well, so time and marketing my business is always a challenge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Create a business that you have a strong passion for.
- Research your business idea from top to bottom before opening your business.
- Be prepared to spend most of your time advertising.
