Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diva Name, Owner of La Mexicana Taco Bar, located in Wilton Manors, FL, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I like to be categorized as a casual dining Mexican experience. Our customers are everybody who loves tacos, good entertainment, and margaritas colder than your ex's heart.
Tell us about yourself
I'm originally from Colombia, and like many immigrants, I moved to the states looking for better opportunities. I've always been drawn towards food because it gives me comfort and represents familiarity. My biggest motivation is to cater a good experience and help create good memories for each person that gives us the opportunity not just to try our amazing food but also to interact with our friendly staff. Our crew members are 100% Latinos with warm hearts looking to learn every day how to do better in the industry.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment has been being in this male-dominated industry as a female business owner that provides opportunities to more women and Latinos in the hospitality business every day.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Time management, it's hard to separate your personal life from your work life because this industry demands your 100% every day, at least in the first years.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be passionate about it because it won't be easy, but it will be better if you love what you do.
- Discipline. It's everything because, most days, lack of motivation can be your worse enemy.
- Help people. Good things come when you help others because the money comes and goes, but people may not return if they are not treated with respect and empathy. Your staff will be your better allies to accomplish success.
