Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Florence Parot, Founder of La Bulle de Repos, located in La Serre-Bussière-Vieille, France.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The name of the company, "La Bulle de Repos," means The Bubble of Rest. We provide online programmes and in-person retreats for people who are feeling overwhelmed and stressed and want to find more serenity in their lives.

Tell us about yourself

I went into burnout aged 23. My doctor in France recommended I try sophrology. I had no clue what she meant, but I was ready to try anything! It turned out sophrology was a form of mindfulness technique that is both super simple and fantastically efficient. I often say it allows us to have a clear mind and a relaxed body. It is a mixture of dynamic movements, breathing techniques, and mindful exercises. It got me out of burnout in a magnificent way. So, when I realised 12 years later I wanted something other in my life than my corporate job, I retrained and became a sophrologist to help others thanks to the method that had saved me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I created the first sophrology training centre in the UK (The Sophrology Academy)13 years ago, therefore participating hugely in the development of this technique known before mainly in French and Spanish-speaking countries and wrote several books on the subject, both in French and English, one of which was translated in 5 languages.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The uncertainty. It is an amazing adventure, and more than 15 years down the line, I have no regrets whatsoever, but there always are some difficult moments when you feel like everything is going to crumble or you have no idea what is coming next, especially over the past few years.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Remember why you started this; your passion needs to be strong to guide you in dark moments.
  2. Keep going; many do not make it simply because they gave up, persist!
  3. Remember to have fun with it and take very good care of yourself, have sufficient rest and fun times; you need to keep your inner fuel running.
