Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristina Serfass, Owner of BAKED. Custom Cakes, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a custom cake studio, open by appointment, and cakes are made to order. My customers range from all over, looking for all types of celebrations.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been in food service and started cooking/baking at a young age. Growing up, I was always into all sorts of crafts, and this is just another medium of art but with sugar! I love to create new designs and the creative process of each cake.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Winning Cake Wars twice on the Food Network.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a small business owner and doing it all myself can be a lot sometimes, and navigating different styles and personalities of clients can be challenging, as well as the cost of goods increasing.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start small and work your way up, don't spend a lot of overhead at the beginning- grow as your business grows. Network with people, social media is great but getting facetime with actual people goes a long way.
