Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amita Basra, Owner of Kreem Shakti, located in Berkeley, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Kreem Shakti is an Ayurvedic holistic health business using the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda from 2000-3000 BC. Kreem Shakti is a unique combination of the Eastern science of Ayurveda and the Western experience of a bedside RN for 13 years. At Kreem Shakti, we empower individuals to take their health into their own hands and help inspire, educate and transform wellbeing!

Tell us about yourself

I started learning Ayurveda for my own health. I developed multiple physical symptoms, and despite all sorts of testing, no reason could be found. My mental health declined, and I developed a drug addiction to cope. Where Western medicine fell short on reviving me back to health and wellbeing, Ayurveda shined. Ayurveda not only helped heal my wounds that allowed the space for addiction to develop but strengthened my mind and physical body, so much so that I feel younger and healthier now than I had felt for many years. This change was not only noticed by myself but all others around me, and they would ask, "what is it you have been doing?" I started teaching Ayurveda to friends and family members, and my patients. I enjoy seeing the transformation in people and watching them achieve wellness in their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being able to positively influence others into being who they truly are, feeling better in their bodies and minds, as well as educating people on how to take better care of themselves! I truly love being able to provide this service!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is time management! There are always many action items that need attention, and I am grateful for my nurse training which helps me prioritize.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Love what you do!
  2. Do it right the first time. Slow down and take the time to learn the correct way to do a task - backtracking takes time and energy.
  3. Have integrity in all choices you make!
