Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal & business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kathy Parks, Founder of KPCoaching, located in Seattle, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I assist women in believing in their dreams so they can have the life, career, and compensation they want. I am a career and leadership coach.
In order for them to live regret-free lives.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 30 years with a large corporation as a sales leader, and the best part of my job was the development of my people. Helping them learn and grow and succeed in their own careers. When I retired, I wanted to take that experience and help others with their careers so they would not make the mistakes that I did.

There's so much you don't know when you are starting out, and as you move forward in your career, you are so busy working you don't take the time to be intentional about where you are going. I love to help people get clear on what they want and see them move forward on a path toward the job or career they will love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Growing a business from no clients to a wonderful coaching practice. But most importantly, it's seeing my clients believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Everyone has things that can hold them back but to see their work on those and move forward anyway is very gratifying.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The buck stops with you. You are the only one that can make things happen, and your success depends solely on what you do. It can be lonely and frustrating, and it takes time to find that success.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand that it will take time. When you first start, no one knows who you are, and you have to build up your brand and your following. Don't expect to be a success right out of the gate - you can be an instant success after 5-10 years of hard work!
  2. Ask for help - search out mentors and others that can give you advice - you don't have to do it on your own. Let other people help you not make the same mistakes that so many do.
  3. Pick something you are passionate about that brings you joy and that helps the world so that you won't mind spending the long hours that it is going to take to grow. Have a mission that corresponds with your values, something that you can be proud of.
