Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jesse Kohls, Founder of Kohls Fitness, located in Rowlett, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a nutrition coach. I specialize in highly individualized, 24/7 nutrition coaching. My customers range from anyone who just wants to look and feel better with themselves all the way to competitive CrossFitters, Bodybuilders, and Endurance athletes.

Tell us about yourself

I've always enjoyed helping people achieve their goals, and I've always been passionate about sports, fitness, and nutrition. I recognize a huge need in today's society for proper nutrition guidance, and I am thankful to be able to help people with their nutrition every day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a small business after having no formal training on how to do so. From social media marketing to making my own website to making physical merchandise. I had zero experience and training regarding those things, and I was able to do them successfully.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Time management and work/life balance. Owning a small business isn't just a 9-5 type job where you can compartmentalize work, especially when you offer 24/7 nutrition coaching like I do. Making sure that I have a great relationship with my wife and kids, along with having multiple businesses, can be challenging at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself - It's 2022. All of the information you need is out there, and most of it is free. You can do anything if you want it bad enough.
  2. Don't be afraid to grow slowly - If you have a day job that can pay your bills while you start your new business, feel free to grow your new business slowly. Don't feel a need to go "all-in," even though that seems like what is popular today. Make sure you do what's best for you and in your situation.
  3. Have boundaries - Do your best to set and maintain boundaries with regard to your new business. Yes, of course, you are going to need to grind at all hours of the day, especially at first. It is important, however, that you don't lose the other important things in your life while you are building your business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I love all of you, and I hope you have a blessed day!
