Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristine Masopust, Owner of KM Communications & Consulting, LLC., located in Manahawkin, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

KM Communications & Consulting specializes in energy healing, communications, and spiritual coaching and communications consulting. As a Reiki Master Practitioner and Teacher, Shamanic Practitioner, Kundalini Yoga Teacher, and Certified Coach - I work to empower others to release what does not serve them through a variety of energy healing modalities and tools so they can create space for what will serve them better - and ultimately live, speak and breathe their life authentically. Consulting specialties include thought leadership, strategic counsel, content creation, and media relations.

Tell us about yourself

Since I entered the professional world 16 years ago, I have enjoyed my work in the field of Communications, but on a deeper level felt that I had a higher calling and purpose. I have been a spiritual person since I was a small child and, over the years, have been drawn deeper into energy healing for a variety of reasons. Life events and physical and emotional pain I was on a journey to heal from that served as a catalyst for an intense awakening, and my intuitive gut instinct all drove me to start my business during the height of Covid-19 shortly after I had my second child.

Over the course of my professional career, I worked in Corporate Communications - both in-house for Fortune 500 global organizations and award-winning agencies. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Monmouth University, where I double majored in Public Relations/Journalism and T.V./Radio Broadcasting.

I received my Coaching certification through Coach Training Alliance (an ICF accredited coaching program), my Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master certification from Karuna Reiki Master Melissa Mortimer, and my Shamanic Practitioner certification from The Light of Healing - Energy Healing School led by Master Healer Mariia Tsegelnyk. Of note, I am also an RYT-200 Trauma-Informed Kundalini Warrior Yoga Teacher in training - certified through Yoga Farm Ithaca.

I believe effective communication is fundamental to the success of all relationships - both professional and personal. Clear and direct communication is instrumental in helping you set and reinforce healthy boundaries for yourself and others. I am passionate about energy healing work, mindfulness, meditation, and the wellness space overall. I believe that no matter what you do for a living or what walk of life you are in - if you feel well, you do well, and you live well.

By choosing faith over fear and starting my own business so that I can practice my purpose, I have taken a stand for my family and myself. By no means do I think I am morally superior by doing the type of work that I do – or that my life or chakras are perfectly balanced all of the time. I am a human being, so I am flawed. There is a shadow in me, just as there is light – as is the case with us all. I have definitely not mastered all of the lessons there are to learn in what I share, what I do, or in life in general. That said, I am committed to this work, I am passionate about this work, and I care about the impact this work can make.

While I have come a long way, especially over this last decade, I am still working on healing my inner child. I do not believe healing is linear. People will likely have different viewpoints on whether healing is a destination or a journey – it’s healthy and natural for people to have differing viewpoints. Some may feel healing is a journey, while others feel it is a destination. Some think they do not need any healing. We all walk a different path. However, at our core, we all have an inner child that longs to be seen, heard, understood, accepted, and loved – unconditionally – for exactly who we are. Keep going. Never give up on yourself. You deserve to feel whole and full – just as you and just as you are.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's tricky to pick just one specific accomplishment. Viewing this holistically, I think it has been an accomplishment to design it to uniquely fit the transforming needs of the people I am working to empower, as well as the demands of my family and life in general. I am grateful that it was profitable within its first year and continues to grow. I also consider it an accomplishment to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone on an ongoing basis and to expand my services and certifications.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Where to place my focus and working on the aspects of my business that do not come as naturally to me. When you own your own business, you can always be doing more, so it can become challenging to juggle and separate your life's personal and professional aspects.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be receptive to others if and when it feels right, but consciously choose to follow your intuitive gut instinct and the light within you.
  2. Work smarter, not always harder, and create time and space to prioritize self-care and self-love.
  3. Challenge yourself to grow outside of your comfort zone, and never give up on your dreams.
