Empowerment Journey - Kim Norman

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kim Norman, Founder of Empowerment Journey, located in Salt Lake City, UT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Empowerment Journey inspires and empowers individuals to create their best life through teaching and experiential learning activities.

Tell us about yourself

I have an MS in education from Utah State University. I have been teaching and coaching for over 35 years. Each time I had athletes who needed higher level experiences, I built those experiences, which led to the following Not-for-profit companies, Intermountain USA volleyball, High Country Volleyball Club, and American Volleyball Association. The EMpowerment Journey was formed after a near-death experience where I was told to go back and change the world. I began developing my SOULS Journey 5-step path forward system to living your absolute best life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Staying in business for over 32 years. Serving diverse populations that otherwise would not have access to Olympic-level volleyball instruction. Empowering individuals to champion their own life. Through experiential learning and leadership.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Entrepreneurship is difficult when you are running multiple businesses and multiple staffing talents because relationships with all the staff are critical to team success and personal support. Connection in an organization that really cares about its employees, as I do, becomes more difficult the more diverse and distant we become.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and the reason you are passionate about the business and the services you will provide.
  2. Never, Ever give up.
  3. Embrace failure as a learning opportunity.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Whether you are the CEO of a not-for-profit or for-profit, the people you have working beside you every day in the trenches must believe in the business, its services, and each other.
