Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kiley Redhead, Creator of The New School for Inspired Work, located in Bowen Island, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

The New School for Inspired Work is a container through which I offer online programs and a member community that helps people create work that is the truest expression of who they are. Those who are drawn to my work have an inner desire to make a more meaningful contribution through their own work. They are ready to break free from the limitations of working within conventional environments and the structures of old systems because they know they are here to play a more significant role in the newly emerging paradigm. Their challenge is they’re not yet clear on what that looks like specifically for their work, so I help them get clear and then support them on their creative journey.

Tell us about yourself

At one time, I was so disconnected from who I was that I moved through life feeling little more than numb. I actually believed I wasn’t even worthy of taking up space in the world, so I played small. At work, I just went through the motions without much consideration for the enormous potential that works held. That all changed when one day I woke up and realized everything I was doing felt meaningless to me. It made my entire existence feel meaningless. That was a bad day. It was also the best day of my life because it sparked a desire within to bring myself back to life. I wanted to do work that felt aligned with who I am. More than anything, I wanted to feel inspired. That desire led me on a profound inner journey to remember who I was and what I had to offer the world. My offerings are all derived from what I learned through my own personal experience. Now I support others who want to go on the same journey of discovering, creating, and living their inspired work. It’s enlivening to witness other people bring themselves back to life and share all of who they are through their work.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

In regard to my clients, it’s the light I see in their eyes when they finally remember what amazing beings they are. For myself, it’s that I can end each and every workday knowing I lived a life true to myself.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Our businesses help us grow and evolve as humans. They are a wondrous and, oftentimes, frustrating mirror of the seemingly endless limiting beliefs and internal barriers we hold onto about who we are and what we are capable of. When we face any of the inevitable challenges that arise in business, it is an opportunity to navigate the stories of lack and limitation we are playing out through our work. It is only when we are able to release the misbeliefs about ourselves that our businesses can thrive and expand. The adventure of living one’s inspired work is rarely a smooth ride; however, it is a wondrous, ever-unfolding journey to the truth of who we are.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Align your business with the truth of who you are.
  2. Embrace your power as a creator.
  3. Be willing to commit with your whole heart and soul.
