kid-grit™ offers a whole world of holistic education tools – all evidence-based and proven. Developed with heart and soul by passionate educators for teachers and learners, kid-grit addresses the whole person mentally, emotionally, socially, and physically.
We are an education and professional learning company that offers something at every age and level of learning. For youth, we offer a social-emotional learning curriculum, activities, and workshops. For educators, we offer classroom management strategies, wellness, and emotional IQ professional learning workshops, and for leaders, we are building something brand new.
Tell us about yourself
kid-grit has been a lifelong dream, although it has developed differently than originally thought of. I love being creative and have an entrepreneurship mindset, originally coming from an arts background. I found that working for other people, either your ideas are unseen or unheard OR they take them and don't execute them in the way originally meant to be completed. I have a partner who is a certified holistic wellness coach; we developed kid-grit by looking at what other companies in this space weren't doing and then looking at our individual and then collective strengths. Both of us come from a childhood with challenges that could have sent us in a negative direction; we overcame this with resilience and grit. Our 'why' is that we don't ever want to see a young person victimized by their circumstances; we want them to believe that they have choices and that they can make them.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
That I am a business owner. :)
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Growing the company on all fronts without a formal background in several areas of business development. Also, making decisions that impact our regular contractors that they may not love.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Expect to work very hard, long hours, and grind for more years than you think you'll need to.
- Learn 'cash management' skills early on.
- Enjoy the freedom of making your own rules.
