Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kimberly Hardeman, Founder of kheimistrii, located in Fort Worth, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We create bath and body products. Our customers are label readers who care about our impact on the environment and care about what goes on their skin and their bodies. Supporters of kheimistrii love gourmand scents, fantasy, and storytelling. Our customers love to smell extraordinary, with scents that are not commonly worn but eaten.

Tell us about yourself

I started creating my own products after hearing the word no from other businesses from whom I wanted to sell their products. Those no's were enough encouragement to begin my own journey. I was already creating products for home, coworkers, family, and friends. Stories of how I changed someone's life, of how wearing my creations makes them feel powerful or confident keep me going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment thus far has been finally being seen after so many years of hustle. We were featured on InStyle.com. I have yet to reach my biggest accomplishment because I want to provide a home-cooked meal for shut-ins. It's a tradition that a family member began so many years ago that I helped with baking cakes and delivering meals. That family member has since passed on, but I would love to continue that tradition.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The uncertainty of the economy. Adapting to changes, sourcing ingredients, and packaging for supply and demand. The cost of shipping and ingredients has skyrocketed, so finding new suppliers has become the new normal.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Research, research, and more research.
  2. When you feel like you have had enough and want to give up, keep going.
  3. Be creative. Go with your first thoughts on how you would like your business to look.
  4. Don't compare yourself to others; we are all unique.
