What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a juice bar that serves freshly squeezed juices, Acai bowls, Avocado toast, and smoothies. Our customers are focused on nutrition coupled with taste. Our products have no added sugars, liquid sweeteners, or flavored powders. We use real fruits and vegetables for our bowls, toasts, and smoothies.
Tell us about yourself
I have been in the restaurant business for over 25 years. I started as a busser and waiter in a Mexican restaurant. Someone took a chance on me being a manager back then, and I grew all the way to being an executive in a $200 million restaurant company. Then most recently became a Multi-unit franchise owner.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Truthfully, throughout the pandemic, we have not faced the same staffing issues that many in our industry have faced. We treat our people pretty well by having a fair wage, treating them with respect, and listening to their opinions about the business. That, in turn, equals low turnover and, ultimately, an excellent customer experience.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Knowing that you do not know it all but not knowing what you do not know. I learn things EVERY day, mostly the hard way. But learning is learning!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Understand your customer's needs and wants. Then have a laser focus on delivering them every day.
- Do your research and understand your point of differentiation from the competition.
- Have a crystal clear vision of where you want your business in 1, 3, 5, and 10 years. Be flexible against that vision, but make sure your plans get you to that vision.
